  1. I’m wondering if the big home with the tennis court that my dad spoke about, and of which I think there might be some photos of Edith’s children in the garden, could be Stanmore Hall? Do you know when Knox-D’Arcy was there? If B was living there too (it was certainly large enough) that might account for the maid, the bishop etc etc. Pity Dad didn’t write down what he remembered; it would have at least given us a bit more to go on, even if inaccurate. I’m amazed that you’ve managed to sort out as much as you have.

  2. As far as I know WKD lived at Stanmore Hall between 1889 and his death in 1917. I don’t think B lived with him. I suspect that she may have lived with her mother in Clarence Gate Gardens (see this picture). But I’m not sure whether that was a house or a flat. I doubt there would have been room for a tennis court in either case, but the idea of maids and bishops being involved is not fanciful as it was (and is) in a very exclusive part of London.
