Old photo album

I found this old photo album lying around the house. I don’t know why I’ve got it. The dates of the pictures range from the 1920s to the 1960s. Some of them are annotated in an immature hand, probably that of the then future, now former chairman of Cobra (not the beer company, a different Cobra). Where the annotations have identified people the identifications have been followed. Elsewhere I knew, or if I didn’t know I either guessed, in which case I appended a question mark, or I didn’t guess. Please use the comment fields under the medium-sized version of each picture if you can correct or amplify the captions.

Stolen from Lucy

Shamelessly lifted wholesale from Lucy Christie’s flickr album. So sue me.

Pictures collected by Gerry Richardson

Gerry, who lived in Montreal, collected a large amount of information about the Richardson and D’Arcy families in the process of writing two books, one about the Jardine expedition in North Queensland in the early 1860s, on which A J Richardson was the official government surveyor; the other about W K D’Arcy’s adventures with gold mines and oil wells. Neither was published, but in due course I hope to make the texts of both available on this site. The manuscripts, along with some photos and other papers that appear in this album, were sent over by our Canadian relatives following Gerry’s death. Much of the information, such as identification of people depicted, is based on Gerry’s explanatory notes.
