D’Arcy

Members of the D’Arcy family, reputed to be descendants of the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne (like everyone else is, probably) and connected to everyone’s favourite saint, Joan of Arc (or Auntie Joan, as I like to call her).
William Knox D’Arcy was a sharp solicitor who made a fortune from the Mount Morgan goldmine in Australia, then later founded Anglo-Iranian Oil (now British Petroleum, or BP) … without arranging for any of his fabulous riches to descend to my side of the family.
The D’Arcys are connected to the Richardson family through W K D’Arcy’s sister, Lucy Knox D’Arcy, who married Archibald John Richardson.
