Armed Yacht ‘Peggy’
‘Peggy’ has the oldest surviving shallop hull form in the world. She is clinker-built, with a bowsprit and a two-masted schooner rig. The layers of paint seen here on the upper part of the stern are original, although the white paint has been applied twice since 1950. She was a very fast sailer and was a regular winner when racing. In 1796, ‘Peggy’ by sea and land to Windermere and gained victory in a regatta there.
